Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment

This year’s International Women’s Day Exhibition in Wollongong will be celebrating the official UN theme of ‘Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment’.

International Women's Day is celebrated annually around the world on the 8th March to mark a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

In its 24th year, the International Women’s Day Exhibition in Wollongong is showcasing the work of thirty-six diverse local artists from the Illawarra area. The exhibition celebrates the rich and dynamic creative art practices and with a diversity of artworks and mediums including collage, textiles, limited edition prints, digital media and photography, drawing, sculpture, artist books, ceramics and paintings from local emerging and established artists.

Exhibition Coordinator Sue Bessell said, “This year’s theme ‘Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment’ reflects a number of important local, national and worldwide movements that have questioned embedded inequalities in our society. Local women artists in the Illawarra have come together in this year’s annual International Women’s Day exhibition to express and celebrate their creative achievements, challenge inequalities and to advocate for a more inclusive and equal society.’

This year the Exhibition will be officially opened by Sarah Moss on SATURDAY 9TH MARCH at 6pm at Project Contemporary Artspace with performances by Sound of Koko’ (Rhea Mangles & Kachina) and performance poets Adara Enthaler and Jamilla.

Don’t miss out on your chance to come along and celebrate the fantastic talent of the 36 artists who are showcasing their creative contribution to our dynamic cultural, social, economic and political life of the Illawarra.
